Our vision at MAC Islamic School is to be the school of choice that focuses on academic excellence that produces positively influential individuals with exceptional Islamic character while having fun.
A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Assalaamualaykum Dear MIS families,
By the grace of Allah (SWT) we find ourselves in the second month of the year
2017 and indeed half way through the school year! As they say, time flies when
you are busy and having fun, and I am confident that we are having both at MIS.
We will like to extend a huge thank you to all the families who attended our Gala this past Saturday and supported our fundraising efforts. The Gala was attended by a number of our local politicians and featured presentations by our studentsand an inspiring talk by the well-known scholar Sh. Abdalla Idris. We were able to raise $76,000 in donations and pledges to support MIS programs and expansion plans. Please note that there is still an opportunity to contribute to our school after the Gala and we thank you for your support.
The recent tragedy in Quebec City has highlighted the need for us to be more
vigilant as a community, as well as the need to be more active in our dawa to our
Canadian neighbours in order to inform them about our beautiful and complete
religion, Islam. InshaAllah, MIS is a vehicle for the promotion of this dawa! As
previously communicated, MIS takes the safety of our students and staff very
seriously, and we have a number of safety measures in place. We appreciate the
cooperation of parents and families by asking you to make sure you sign in at the
office when you visit the school, as well as insuring that perimeter doors are
always locked. Thank you for your cooperation.

Parents get a survey by mail. All teachers, students in grades 4, as well as their parents are included in the survey. The results are provided to MIS in order for us to update our three-year education plans, annual education results reports (AERR) and to evaluate our performance on Accountability Pillar survey measures. The surveys began being mailed the week of January 23-2. If you are a parent of a student in grades 4 and 7 and have not received the survey by the end of February 10, please contact the office immediately.
2. MIS SCHOOL/STUDENT EVENTS : (Theme of the Month: “Leadership”)
- Book Fair: Thank you MIS students and families for a wonderful and successful book fair which was held at the end of January. This year we also featured an Islamic book fair. Sales were excellent and a good portion of the proceeds will go towards expanding our library and developing other literacy based programs at MIS.
- World Hijab Day: This was celebrated last Wednesday. MIS students created a video to record their appreciation for the hijab which was shown at our weekly assembly last Friday.
- Black History Month: This has been officially recognized by Premier Rachel
Notley and the Government of Alberta for 2017, and MIS is recognizing this event by highlighting the contributions of Black Canadians as well as discussing Islam’s role in the promotion of harmony between the races. A focus on the life of the esteemed sahabi, Bilal (R.A.) will take place in our assemblies, khutbas, etc.
- PD for MIS Staff: Our gala keynote speaker, Sh. Abdalla Idris, gave an excellent PD session to our staff this past Friday. His topic was on the 20 Qualities of a Muslim Educator. Sh. Abdalla is a leading authority and pioneer in Islamic education in North America.

Assalam Alikum wa RahmatuAllahi wa Barakatu,
Subhanallah I\We cannot believe January is over! What a month it was, the Islamic part of the book fair was a huge success! We made just over $4,900 with a percentage of that donated back to the school in books we donated to the school library as well as the Islamic Studies department. We hope that this is a part of the book fair that will not only be continued on for next year but be bigger and better! Thank you all for your support!
This month kicks off the term 2 hot lunch! We always appreciate feedback, as well as volunteers to help out on Hot Lunch days. Please note that the hot lunch day scheduled for March 3rd, as been moved to March 1st, due to the teachers convention. I will be sending out a letter that week to remind parents. As well, please remember to send your child with a water bottle and snacks on hot lunch days.
Remember, PC is open to ALL parents, and we are always looking for more parents to come out and support the school and students. Our meetings are the first Thursday of each other at 2pm in the staff room. We look forward to seeing new faces at the meeting every month!
Jazak Allahu Kheirn for your continued support of Parent Council.

We are very thrilled to announce that we now have INTRAMURALS for DIV 2 students (Grades 5-8). Each month we will be offering a different sport where students can participate in structured physical play. We have separate divisions; for boys and girls, alternating each day 3 times a week. For the month of January we played Basketball. It was very much enjoyed by all! In February, we will be playing SOCCER!
SOCCER CLUB - Division 1 (lead by Ms. Hanan):
Soccer Club (Grade 2's, 2A vs. 2B) is on Thursdays during Lunch Recess. Soccer Club (Grade 1A vs 1B) is on Fridays during Morning recess. The soccer club provides an opportunity for students in division 1 to play organized soccer at recreational and competitive levels and to assist all participants in reaching their potential through the development of players and student coaches. Students from division 1 who are not in the soccer club are free to watch the soccer games once given permission by their homeroom teacher.
As part of our Wellness Program, we will be implementing monthly workshops. These workshops will engage students and educate them through hands-on experiences. Each workshop is designed to encourage all our students to take the initiative in developing healthy lifestyles.
This month we welcome Dental Student from KDM Dental Collage. Students will receive a classroom visit and presentation on Oral Health.
Our continued collaboration with MacEwen Nursing program is scaffolding into February. The Nurse team is working directly with our Wellness Team to further educate staff on physical fitness and student participation.
We look forward to growing our relationship with our Community ties. Together we can make MAC Islamic School the BEST place!

MONTHLY THEME INSPIRATION: Leadership
If there is any personality that has lived on the face of this earth who was complete in every regard and whose life can serve as a beacon of guidance for people of every walk of life, then that personality would undeniably be our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Muslims who follow him as a prophet of their religion as well as those who do not follow Islam hold him in high regard as an exemplar of best human characteristics. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Arabia in the city of Makkah about 1400 years ago. Since then the world has not seen the likes of him in every regard and the study of human history shows that there have been none better than him before or since.
The key factor that brings reverence and respect to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in both the Islamic and non-Islamic circles is his character. He (PBUH) stated: “God has sent me to perfect good manners and to do good deeds.” (Narrated by Imam Bukhari)
